How to fix the Windows Registry

The registry is most important for proper functioning of a Windows PC. Registry is the database which stores important information about the installed softwares, hardware configurations, operating system settings and user settings. The registry can be accessed by typing “regedit” in the RUN dialogue box in the start menu.

Now that you have the backdrop for what registry is and does, now come to the vital part. I am sure many of you have seen your computer slow down after about one or two-year of purchase. Now you may blame this on the poor hardware but this may not always be the case. There is a good chance that it is the software is installed by you that has clogged up the space and made the registry clattered. The registry can become cluttered due to improper uninstallation of programmes, remain soft configuration settings of unused “common files” anti-virus and Trojans. Now to get a computer working at its full potential, the registry must be clean. So onto cleaning the registry.

Before cleaning the registry, make sure that you have permanently deleted all your unused files like videos and music, properly uninstalled programs that you don’t need from the add/remove program utility in the control panel and cleared the cache of the Internet browser. There is a scan button which you should place to scan the registry for errors and corrupted entries. You can manually choose to fix certain of them and leave others which you think are essential or assured that should not be removed. The software also gives you the option to search specific parts of the registry and clean them.

And if you are worrying that you could end up in a mess by altering the registry in a bad way, let me tell you that the software takes backup of the registry before performing any cleaning and you can always restore the previous registry with the click of a button. So if anything goes wrong and you notice the computer functioning badly you can always revert back to the original settings.
